As the proportion of distributed energy resources (DER) increases, and electrical vehicles are being deployed, the transmission and distribution electricity grids have to become smarter and more flexible, ensure reliability, and improve efficiency.

Smart Grids are necessary to reach these targets. Based on a convergence of electricity and telecommunication networks, in order to allow a real-time monitoring and control of the electricity grid, key features include equilibrating production and consumption, identifying and fixing issues, and anticipating maintenance needs.

As the cornerstone of Smart Grids, Smart Metering systems allow for the gathering of consumption and production data on a regular basis (e.g. each hour, each day), support flexible contracts based on a demand-response scheme (including “price signal”) or pay-per-use, and provide information to the customer about its consumption or production.

Trialog has more than 20 years’ experience of smart metering, including architecture, design, specification, validation and deployment. Trialog combines its expertise on system architecture, powerline communications (PLC), interoperability and validation to offer services and tools to allow a fast time-to-market from proof of concept to massive rollout.

Trialog is a founding member of the G3-PLC Alliance, and is responsible for the Interoperability workshop and Certification program.

Trialog also offers trainings about smart metering protocols such as G3-PLC and DLMS/COSEM.

Based on its strong knowledge of smart metering and e-mobility, Trialog started to work on smart grids in 2011 within innovative projects, including real-time monitoring and control, vehicle-to-grid and flexibility.

Trialog’s main added value focuses on architecture, design, validation and deployment phases, offering tools and support on system architecture and modeling (incl. SGAM), smart grid standards (incl. IEC 62056, IEC 60870, IEC 61850), telecom performance and resilience, cyber-security, interoperability and system validation.
