The SIT is a network testing tool. Its function is to test the strength of a signal received by a device on a power-line network. It consists of two small identical boxes which can be plugged in at any distance from each other on the network. The device which acts as the transmitter sends a series of signals. The other device displays the level of the signals received. This is useful for testing the feasibility of communication between devices before they are installed, or for troubleshooting after installation.
To use the tool, simply plug each device in a power-line socket. On the device that you decide is the transmitter, press the mode button until a light turns on next to either TX On or TX Burst. This causes the device to transmit either a continuous signal or bursts of signals. The other device automatically becomes the receiver. It turns on a light next to the level of the signal it receives, within a range of 68 to 95 dB.
