The Frame Analyser/Generator is a development and analysis tool for EHS communication. It consists of two parts: the Analyser module displays EHS frames circulating on a power-line network, and the Generator module sends frames that you have defined on the network.
Frame Analyser
The Frame Analyser captures EHS frames circulating in real-time on a power-line network. Through the graphic display you can monitor the communication between devices on the network in order to debug applications under development or trouble shoot in a network of finished appliances.
It displays the contents of each frame in hexadecimal and easy to understand English formats. The Analyser also presents the enrolment links of each device on the network. Real-time displays can be saved to a file for detailed analysis at a later date.
By using simple filters you can create an unlimited number of windows, each with its own particular format, to focus on different aspects of the system. For example, one window can be dedicated to messages for a particular destination address, and another window can display only messages with a particular Object/Service combination.
Frame Generator
The Frame Generator module allows you to compose the contents of any number of frames and control when each frame is sent on the network. The Generator window allows you to add or delete frames in a list that can be saved, modified, and reused. Once a frame list appears in the Generator window, a simple click on the Send button transmits the selected frame over the power-line network.
The Generator window allows you to define the optional and mandatory fields in each frame. A help window lets you set the individual bit fields of the frame header and automatically calculates the value to enter in the Header field. In addition, you can define the Link Addresses that will be acknowledged by the Frame Analyser/Generator hardware. Thus when a frame from one of those addresses is received, the sender receives a valid Local Confirmation frame.
Technical Details
The Frame Analyser/Generator uses a combination of hardware and software to provide its services. The hardware consists of a connection box plugged into a power-line network that sends EHS frames and captures frames as they circulate on the network. The hardware passes the captured frames to a PC where the software analyses the contents of each frame and passes data to the windows on the screen. The PC sends the user-generated frames to the connection box which transmits them on the network.
The connection box contains the ST7538 power-line modem of STMicroelectronics and has a data rate of 2400 bits/s. The Frame Analyser v4.0 runs under WindowsTM 95/98/2000/XP.
