EHS/KNX Communication Boards

The EHS/KNX Communication Board eases the integration of home technology into an appliance. It offers EHS or KNX communication services on a power-line network.

The board comes in two versions. Both versions are dedicated power-line boards accessed through a serial link. They currently offer the protocol EHS v1.3a. They both include the ST7538 power-line modem, a power-line interface and a power supply. They differ only in the version of EHS/KNX Network IC which is embedded in the board. The choice of which communication board to use depends on the needs of the application.

CB1 Contains the PN1 version of the IC which simplifies the work of the application.  It is intended for appliances such as white goods and meter interfaces. It can also be used by very simple controllers. CB2 Contains the PN2 version of the IC which provides the application with more control. It can handle the more sophisticated communication needs of gateways and advanced controllers.

Both processors receive messages from the application processor through a serial link. They then transform the messages into EHS frames that are sent over a power-line network. Conversely, when EHS frames arrive over the network, the processors transform them into simple messages that are sent to the application.
